General informations:

a) Pointe a Pitre International Airport is connected with many countries. Most convenient connections are with Paris-Orly Sud (several international companies at low rates); also daily connections with San Juan- Puerto Rico (AA,...) which is close and well linked to US cities, etc. Pointe a Pitre is also connected with Montreal once a week... The University (UAG) is at a 5 km distance from the Airport.

b) Average temperature 25°C at noon in Febuary. Some rains at night. Alizes are famous in Guadeloupe...

c) The UAG will provide the meeting room (400 pl) and video facility in Amphitheatre Guy Merault. Posters will be put in the Hall. Restaurant on the campus will be available.

d) The lodging is mainly planned in a nearby (walking distance) hotel(s). We had a proposal from FRAM-Paris for a group of 60 persons, half- board: double room + breakfeast + dinner /5 nights 7 days/ + airport transportation + insurance, at a total cost of approx. US$ 400/per person + taxes (for a single add $200). It has to be fully paid 1 month before the start of the stay. However, the tremendous pressure (some Hotels are already booked by US travellers; the week of the eclipse is also the week of the carnival) from tourists makes it difficult to guarantee the best hotel accomodations for all participants.
Note from Jean Mouette, December 16th: no more room available from FRAM Agency

Last note from SK: safe dark glasses will be provided to be sure you will be capable to watch the following eclipse occuring in Europe (on Aug. 11, 1999), and check your expected discoveries in Guadeloupe; bring your binoculars !
