![]() In ancient Greek mythology, Trivia, also known as Hecate, is a goddess with huge powers. Zeus calls Hecate whenever any man on earth offers sacrifices and prays for favour. She is a goddess of the cross-roads; her three faces are turned in three directions and her name was shrieked at night at the cross-roads of cities. She has been called supreme, both in heaven and hell. It is said that great honor comes to him whose prayers Hecate receives favorably; she bestows wealth upon him. Zeus did not take away her privileges or anything that was her portion when the Titans ruled the world, but she keeps her own, as the division was in the beginning. This privilege concerns earth, heaven and sea. She grants aids and advances, and when war comes Hecate gives victory and grants glory to whom she pleases. She also helps those who contend at games. And to those who work at sea, she gives great catch, and she takes it away, if that is her will. And concerning herds if she will, she increases their number from a few, or makes many to be less. Zeus made her a nurse of the young and that she was from the beginning. Medea is said to have been a priestess of Hecate, because she used sorcery under the guidance of the goddess and Medea had learned to handle magic herbs with skill. Medea was believed to be able to stay the course of rivers, and to check the paths of the stars and the moon. Hecate was one of the few who knew something about the disappearance of Persephone. However she only heard, and saw nothing. Hecate was mostly worshipped in Aegina. In her honor every year they celebrated mystic rites which were said to have been established by Orpheus. She is a goddess of the Underworld and companion of Persephone. Ancient Greek poets describe her as being very unfriendly. |
